In their journey to search for a new coach, the Phoenix Suns have set their sights on Igor Kokoskov. The current assistant coach of Jazz, who led Slovenia to the European champion title in 2017.
It is a historic step in the globalization of the NBA: For the first time in its history, a coach born in Europe will become the head coach of an NBA team.
The Serb Igor Kokoskov (46 years old), who has been assisting in multiple franchises since his arrival in the NBA eighteen years ago. In fact, Igor will be performing the main duties for Phoenix the next season.
The Arizona team which gets the worst record of the league this season (61 losses). However has found a successor to Jay Triano, appointed interim coach after the dismissal of Earl Watson early in the year.

ّConsidered an excellent tactician with great experiences, Kokoskov had already been assistant to the Suns for five years (2008-2013). But he became only a candidate for the position of head coach last summer, after winning its very first title of European champion with Slovenia’s team.
Therfore, he has signed a three-year contract with the Suns, and will begin his new role at the end of the NBA play-offs, in which he is still engaged with the Jazz. So, the first appearance of Igor Kokoskov as a main coach will be next season. And the excitement will inevitably be on schedule, whether in Phoenix or anywhere else.
